Deeper Description

Recently, I’ve been thinking a lot about yoga sequencing – the order that items are put together in a class. Different lineages use different sequencing theories, all of which take into consideration ayurvedic principles, chakra balancing principles, physiological needs, and more. The body we live in is quite complex. Incorporated within are many systems working synchronistically: skeletal system, cardiovascular system, endocrine system, digestive system, nervous system, and the list goes on. It’s one of the reasons why yoga asana classes feel so good – classes nourish and bring balance to all of your many “systems,” from top to bottom.

Even though from top to bottom is an idiom meaning completely and thoroughly, moving through the yoga asanas from top to bottom (from head to tail) actually is one traditional way to organize a yoga class sequence, and the organizational challenge I gave to myself for this class.

After the warm-up postures, we’ll focus on and stimulate different areas of the body from top to bottom, as completely and thoroughly as we can.

Highlights of the class will include: a new arm wrap for floating 1/2 Wheel, Dwi Pada Dandasana (advanced position), and a levitated Tree.
