This class explores numerous flow sequences, Sun Salutations and others, holding onto the hammock, and cocooned inside the hammock. Also included: Rolling Wheel and Side Bridge Pose.
Like many people, I have a difficult time maintaining a yoga peacefulness as more and more deadlines loom and the pressure to uphold responsibilities increases. Especially if the responsibilities are directly tied to survival.
As my life gets busier, the tool I use to help prevent me from slipping into panic, is to use an asana practice as a metaphor for how I perceive the world around me and the events I experience in life. Therefore, when life starts to flow faster than usual, I require more flow from my practice, as well. Now is not the time to sit in a forward bend for 5 minutes while I explore the depths of my awareness for each strand of muscle fiber in my hamstrings. Although there is a time and a place for that, now is not that time. Instead, what I need right now, is to practice moving, but at a pace guided by deep, relaxed breathing.
And so, this week’s class will be filled with various different vinyasa flows. We’ll practice several variations of Sun Salutations, and once we get to the Asanas, we’ll accentuate how the breath can keep us moving into and out of the traditional positions through short flows to keep us moving, but moving calmly.
