Back in the day, whenever I asked for “requests” from students for what to include in the day’s vinyasa class, I always received at least one person, and usually it was more than one, who would request “hip openers.”
In my experience, I have seen most people hold too much tension in their hip area – the joints and the surrounding muscles. Why so many people? Perhaps it’s due to poor posture when standing and/or walking. Perhaps whatever stresses we have around our basic survival affect our root chakra. And, by throwing off the balance of energy in our root center, we create tension in the part of our body responsible for balancing our pelvic tilt. Or, perhaps it’s due to the simple fact that most people sit in a chair all day long.
Does it really matter why? Instead, I ask, “Who needs to go into their work week already tense?”
Nobody. The answer is… absolutely nobody.
So, let’s begin our week by focusing on warming and loosening up our frozen hips. And as a result, establish fluidity in our gait, balance our pelvic tilt, and remove the dam from the flow of energy and wisdom we are supposed to receive from the ground.
In other words, take the Melty Monday class, and turn yourself into a tall drink of water. 😉
Specific, juicy postures you’ll practice: Dragonfly, Cow Face Pose, Standing Split, and a new way to practice Side Bow.
