Deeper Description

“Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated.”

-Confucius

As we move through life, in the interest of trying to decrease painful experiences and increase pleasurable experiences, our minds have a tendency to create a lot of “rules” for ourselves to follow. The rules act as priority hierarchies, and we frequently have different sets of rules depending on each situation. The longer we live, the more situations we experience, the more rules we establish for ourselves, and our world can become quite complex with rituals we believe will keep our lives comfortable, or even improve our lives.

Just as it is healthy to take out the garbage from your kitchen every once in a while, it is also healthy for us to simplify our lives every once in a while.

And so, this week, we will Keep It Simple (for our) Sanity by practicing the simplest of aerial yoga positions and simple yoga flows such as Cow and Cat. We’ll avoid complex tasks such as changing our facing and fancy wraps. Think you’ll be bored? You won’t. When our minds aren’t focused on learning something complex, we’re able to better focus on the continuous flow of breath, which becomes endlessly fascinating, the longer we pay attention to it.

Nothing could be more simple than the instruction to watch the breath. And yet, nothing could be more challenging for the mind to do. 🙂
