Deeper Description

Some people say we need the darkness to fully see and understand the light. Assuming that philosophy, we need the air to fully understand and feel the floor. Perhaps “need” is too strong of a word for this particular scenario. Nevertheless, when it comes to yoga, I do believe using the hammock certainly brings another facet of understanding to the floor asanas.

In all my Unnata Aerial Yoga classes, I use the hammock to support the body while it is grounded, and I use the hammock to support the body while it is completely elevated off the ground. Mainly, I wish for students to better understand the traditional, (floor) asanas, but I also believe we need the grounding quality of the floor to compliment and develop our aerial yoga practice if our goal is to balance the energy body and still the mind.

In this class, have some fun and really embrace this concept by exploring the entire, maximum range from floor to air. We’ll use the hammock while lying flat on the floor, we’ll stand up on the hammock, and we’ll linger in numerous places in between. (Don’t worry if you don’t have the ceiling height to stand on your hammock. I will have options for you.) Going all the way up, and all the way down will help us develop a bit more strength both in our legs, and our arms. Perhaps we’ll also get the maximum perspective of how far we can go in our yoga practice, both literally and metaphorically.
