Deeper Description

Back when I used to teach large mixed-level classes, I rarely started out the class inside the hammock. Usually it was due to practical reasons having to do with brand new students, their sight lines and ability to understand instructions. But also, once a person crawls inside the hammock, it’s so comfortable, they rarely want to make any effort. It’s as if the hammock is giving you a giant hug, and any tough girl/guy/person attitude you need to wear just to get through the day, melts away in response to the hammock’s loving support. And so, because a good yoga class is a balance between effort and release, I became used to doing more energetic items in the beginning of the class, and saving items inside the hammock for later in the class.

But, not for this special Valentine’s Day class! We’ll savor the squeeze and support from our hugging hammocks, by both starting and ending class inside the hammock.

Don’t worry. You’ll still get your inversions, your standing poses, your core strengthening, heart-opening, forward bends, twists, and all parts that complete a yoga asana class. Because in the end, all parts of a yoga class are necessary to open and strengthen our hearts (and minds). And, we need our hearts open and strong if we want to absorb and become the love that we receive from hugs – hammock, or human.
